MELISSA (μέλισσα)
THE GREEK WORD FOR HONEY BEE
Melissa (she/her) is a music therapist currently working in the Edmonton, Alberta area. From a young age, Melissa found comfort in expressing herself through music. This led her on the path to broaden her skills through extensive vocal, guitar, and piano training. Along this path, she discovered a desire to support others by building a strong connection between the power of music and the mind.
She has a Bachelor of Music Therapy Degree from Capilano University and is a member of the Canadian Association of Music Therapists and the Music Therapy Association for Alberta. Melissa founded Honey Bee Music Therapy in 2020 in order to expand opportunities for populations seeking music therapy services.
Melissa believes in a client-centred approach to therapy. She meets clients where they are at and includes them and their caregivers in their therapeutic process. She has provided music therapy to a wide variety of clients in seniors care homes, schools, rehabilitation facilities, private client homes, music studios and through virtual sessions.
REBECCA
Rebecca (she/her) is a new music therapist working in the Edmonton, Alberta area. Songwriting and performing has been a passion of Rebecca’s since she was young. She sings and plays guitar, piano and ukulele. Through music therapy, Rebecca uses her compassion for people and musical talents to help clients grow, develop and heal.
She has a Composition Diploma from MacEwan University and is graduating with a Bachelor of Music Therapy Degree from Capilano University in June 2023. Rebecca is a member of the Canadian Association of Music Therapists and the Music Therapy Association for Alberta. Rebecca is excited to be working for Honey Bee Music Therapy and provide services for clients young and old.
Rebecca believes in a humanistic client-centred approach to music therapy. She meets clients where they are and builds on their strengths to create a meaningful therapeutic relationship. Rebecca has provided music therapy to a wide variety of clients in long term care homes, schools, and halfway houses. Rebecca specialized in working with children in the paediatric setting during her internship at Alberta Children’s Hospital. She is comfortable running in person and virtual sessions, for small groups or individual clients.
